The Genesee: Gem of Waukegan

October 01, 2018

A sparkling jewel of Waukegan, the historic Genesee Theatre opened on Christmas day in 1927 as a movie palace and vaudeville venue, and today plays host to a variety of stellar live performers. The original 2,400 seat venue underwent a $23 million dollar renovation in 2004, and now features a magnificent grand lobby and concert hall with superb acoustics and one of the largest stages in the Midwest. Be sure to catch one of their October offerings listed here. Scott Bradlee's Postmodern Jukebox on October 19 will delight fans of Beyonce, Lady Gaga, Maroon 5, and others with their interpretations of such hits as “Get Lucky,” “Shake it Off,” “All About That Bass,” and more. “In Dreams,” “Oh, Pretty Woman,” and more of the legendary Roy Orbison’s hits will be showcased on October 21 when “Roy Orbison in Concert: The Hologram Tour” plays them all again via the magic of holographic laser imaging and the Lake County Symphony Orchestra. Lastly, Motown aficionados can snag tickets now for Smokey Robinson in concert on October 26, when he’ll be performing “Tears of a Clown,” “I Second That Emotion,” and other beloved hits.
