August 05, 2019

Zion, Illinois was founded in the late 19th century by Dr. John Alexander Dowie. Dr. Dowie envisioned the land as a religious utopia and industrial powerhouse. Much of the diverse history of Zion can be traced back to its inception and the people who shaped it for generations to come.

The best way to embrace an unknown future is through a thorough understanding of the past and so, Dr. Dowie’s historic Shiloh House has been carefully preserved through the ages. This 25-room mansion was built in 1901 and despite its splendor, it was only enjoyed by Dr. Dowie for 6 years before his death in 1907.

The Shiloh House has been under the care of the Zion Historical Society for quite some time and is available to the public in all its splendor. Come check out a glimpse of the past and explore the exquisite home of one of the most influential people in Zion’s history!
